When former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee last February, he was asked about his conversations with President Obama on Sept. 11, 2012 concerning the unfolding terrorist attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Panetta recalled that he and Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey met once with the President informing him of the assault. The meeting lasted a stunningly brief fifteen minutes.
While time lines are still uncertain, the two attacks on the compound and a CIA annex covered a span of many hours. They resulted in the deaths of four Americans including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stephens.
When queried by SAS Committee member Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) if the President inquired about deploying assets including armed aviation or even what resources the US had in the area and in general, what could be done, Panetta’s answer was, “No. . . .he relied on both myself. . .and Gen. Dempsey’s capabilities. . . .”
So there you have it. While bullets flew, RPGs exploded, blood poured and Americans died, Barack Obama checked his watch and made a decision. He was off the clock.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was also AWOL on the night of Sept. 11, 2012. In spite of the desperate situation in Benghazi there was no contact between Mrs. Clinton and Leon Panetta.
So what action was taken to send assistance and respond to the crisis? The answer is too little too late if one is looking at official attempts to end the attack and save lives. The American government did, for the most part, nothing.
As the attack worsened, a senior State Department Consulate security officer called the CIA annex urgently requesting help. A source at the annex that night told Fox News that when they requested permission to go and help, they were told to stand down, not once but twice.
Disgusting and shameful only begin to describe the lack of attention to this life and death event. But it gets worse. Team Obama, all singing from the same hymnal, created a lie which they hoped would explain the unchallenged Benghazi attack.
The story they concocted blamed an anti-Islam YouTube video for deeply offending a large number of Muslims as they each roamed the Internet from their squalid homes. So incensed were they that each one gathered up guns, ammo, mortars and RPGs then, simultaneously, all raced to the local US diplomatic post to burn, plunder and kill.
Susan Rice, US Ambassador to the United Nations, appeared on five Sunday morning news shows promoting the story of the attack as a protest against the anti-Islam video. That is where the cover up really gained momentum. Mr. Obama’s re-election campaign was touting another lie, the president’s success in decimating the leadership of al Qaeda. The second lie was necessary to safeguard the first lie. The attack had to be explained in a manner that protected the President’s sophistry.
Not surprisingly, the administration’s phoney claim went unchallenged by the mainstream, liberal news services.
That may be about to change.
Congressional hearings on the Sept. 11, 2012 attack begin in just a few hours. If the truth is allowed to come out it may well begin the end of Barack Obama’s reign. There is already talk of impeachment for lying to the American people and covering up a full blown scandal. Any plans Hillary Clinton has for 2016 could go up in smoke as her failure to protect American lives is exposed.
Democrats should be biting their nails. President Nixon was driven from office over lying about a burglary. Lying about why Americans died in Benghazi is infinitely more serious. Impeachment is warranted. It could not happen to a more deserving empty suit than Emperor Barack Hussein Obama.
